An Arraiá inside the home
Unable to go to festivals because of the pandemic, the festival came to the children. The team set up an Arraiá at the home, with a decorated table and lots of traditional treats.
Our story
PROHACC was born in Perus, in the northwest of São Paulo. This is our journey, told through official records and the home's own posts, year by year.
How it all began
On October 3, 1997, the Associação Proteção Habitacional das Crianças Carentes was registered, based on Rua Dr. Oscar da Cunha Correia, in Perus.
Today the home is a residential care service: it takes in children and teenagers from 0 to 17 years old by court order, cares for them as long as needed and takes part in the local child protection network.
All of this with no government agreement. Over the years, the home has been kept going by donors, volunteers, schools, companies and neighbors.
Timeline
The milestones below come from the Federal Revenue Service registry and the home's Instagram posts. We have no public records for 1998 to 2019, so we only tell what we can prove.
Stories
Real moments recorded by PROHACC. No story identifies the children: we tell what happened, never who is who.

Unable to go to festivals because of the pandemic, the festival came to the children. The team set up an Arraiá at the home, with a decorated table and lots of traditional treats.

When the world had to stay home, PROHACC kept its doors open on the inside. The children lived through quarantine cared for by the team and volunteers, and the bills kept coming. The request was simple: keep a giving heart even in times of crisis.

Quintal dos Bolos Caseiros, from Perus, sent delicious cakes and the kids had a party. The home publicly thanked them for their kindness.

The 1st Charity Pasta Dinner was ready to happen, but it was canceled because of new Covid-19 restrictions. Even giving up the funds, the home chose everyone's safety.

Food baskets arrived and were shared, on a day the home itself called sharing joy and hope.

Four more children arrived on the same night. The caption recalled: it is the act of taking them in that opens new opportunities and gives hope to those most in need of affection.

The home joyfully shared the first child vaccinated against Covid-19 and hoped that all of them could get vaccinated soon.

A friend of the home called on her friends, and together they gave PROHACC a much-needed fridge. The home thanked them, saying they made all the difference.

For the 1st Charity Pizza Night, the team made mozzarella and calabresa sausage pizzas ready to bake, for pickup at the home.

The home asked for a blender, new or used. Soon after, the post was celebrating: we got it.

The project wanted to take all the children to the mall to meet Santa and have a snack, an outing they really wanted. Since the home has no agreement with the government, the outing depended on donors.

After a campaign to pay for R$ 4,000 in dental treatment, the home shared that fitting the braces for a teenager in care was a success.

After the pandemic, PROHACC returned to the June festival at Colégio Augusto Ramos with a sweets stall. The home thanked every bit of help: the money, the ingredients, the people who cooked and the space the school provided.

When a child arrives, the technical team, management and caregivers take part in the first bath together, so the welcome is as safe and warm as possible.

A baby who had been in the hospital was finally discharged and welcomed home with a party. PROHACC thanked everyone who helped with money and with prayers.

The home is also a collection point: bottle caps, can tabs and empty blister packs go to another partner institution, AAMEEP Centro Dia.

A little fish arrived and became the children's mascot, complete with a card: taking good care of my fish.

With a baby in the ICU, the home hired two more staff members to take turns at the hospital. That same month, two more babies arrived.

Every child in care has the right to be welcomed with humanity, with education, health and food. At PROHACC, the home says, that comes with a lot of love and care.

The home wanted to take its 18 children and teenagers to the movies and asked for help: the campaign art estimated R$ 100 per child, with ticket, popcorn and soda.

With the vouchers we received, the children had a special day, full of joy. The home reminded everyone that small gestures can change a child's day.
