When you send a Pix to PROHACC, where does that money go? It is a fair question, and we want to answer it clearly.
First, an important fact. PROHACC has no agreement with the government. That means we receive no regular public funding to run the home. The care of about 18 children and teenagers is paid for by people and companies who choose to donate. In other words, you.
A day at the home, told through its expenses
A care home works like a big family home. Except it has rules, schedules, a team and a lot of mouths to feed. Here is what an ordinary day takes.
In the morning. Breakfast for everyone. Milk, bread, fruit. Then showers, uniforms, backpacks and school. That means school supplies, clothes, shoes and often transportation.
At lunch and dinner. Rice, beans, meat, vegetables, cooking gas. There are no holidays in the kitchen of a care home.
In the afternoon. Homework, play, doctor and dentist visits when needed. Medicine, bandages, hygiene products. Diapers, when there are little ones.
At night. Bath, clean clothes, a made bed. Soap, electricity, water. Sheets and blankets that wear out with use.
All the time. People caring for them. The 2009 Technical Guidelines for Care Services set a minimum team for a home like ours, with coordination, a technical team and caregivers who work in shifts. Good care takes trained people, every day and every night.
And then there is the house itself: repairs, painting, a shower that burns out, a fridge that stops working.
Why monthly giving makes such a difference
Large organizations around the world ask for monthly donations. SOS Children's Villages Brazil (Aldeias Infantis SOS Brasil), for example, calls its recurring donors "Amigo SOS" and explains that this support keeps its projects running in the long term. The reason is simple. A home's bills arrive every month. A monthly donation, even a small one, lets us plan.
With predictable donations, we can:
- buy food in larger amounts and pay less;
- keep the bills paid without surprises;
- plan repairs before they become emergencies;
- spend more time with the children and less time chasing resources.
If you can, consider sending a monthly Pix, on whatever day works best for you. A reminder on your phone does the trick.
What about campaigns?
Throughout the year, we run campaigns for specific needs:
- Milk campaign: milk is used every day and in large amounts.
- Warm clothes campaign: when the cold arrives, warm clothes and blankets are always needed.
- Easter and the June festival: dates that are part of every child's childhood, and that we want the kids who live with us to enjoy too.
- Outings: discovering new places, going to the park, the theater, the movies. The law guarantees children in care the right to take part in community life, and outings help with that.
Donating items helps a lot. Even so, money has one advantage: it goes exactly to what is missing that week. Sometimes the pantry is full of rice and we are out of gas. A Pix covers both.
How to donate
You can donate by Pix using PROHACC's CNPJ: 02.163.594/0001-87. Before you confirm, check that the name shown is Associação Proteção Habitacional das Crianças Carentes. That protects you from scams.
For item donations or to join a campaign, talk to us through the site's channels before bringing anything. That way we make sure the donation goes to what is really missing.
Our commitment to you
You trust us, and we want to deserve that trust. That is why we want to show how we use what we receive, with photos of the donations and, once it is ready, the financial report, always protecting the children's identity.
For more than 20 years, PROHACC has existed because people like you decided to care. Thank you for being part of it.
